Wishing everyone a happy and safe EASTER!

design made by me. :)

Our Flower Experiment

A fun Experiment to do with the kids.

(After the first day in blue water ... small blue dots and on the edge of petals)

While at my parents house last Sunday. My dad gave Emelia a big beautiful pink rose. So we brought it home. Emelia had been learning about plants at school, so she knew that the flower needed water to live.

Then I said to the kids What would happen if we put food coloring into the water?

So we added a few drops of blue food coloring to the water. So the next day Emelia and Jude ran downstairs to see the flower. It had already started to get a few blue dots on the edge of the petals. Everyday it got more and more blue and you began to see some of the veins in the petals change. Although the whole flower didn't change color it was still really cool to see how much more blue there was each day.

I adding a few photos below the flash washes most of the blue out but you can still see how it changed. You really need to see it in person to see how much more blue it turned.

(Third day in the blue water)

(Fifth day in the blue water... the flower actually started loosing it's pink color)

This was something fun for the kids to see that flowers need water to live.

One Crafty Egg!

My kids have an Easter Egg Hunt playdate tomorrow with a mom's group that I belong to. All the parents are to bring about 12 eggs to hide for all the kids.

So I decided I would do something that was not candy since I figured that is what they will mostly get. I began searching around the house for stickers, and found the big bag of beads that my kids love to make necklaces and bracelets with.

DING! Perfect idea.... Make your own Bracelet!
a small craft inside the egg. It is so fitting that the name of the mom's group is artistic moms. :)

So I grabbed:
  • plastic baggies * you want to make sure your put the beads in a baggy so when the kids open the eggs up the beads don't all fall out
  • colored ribbon
  • the beads
  • elastic string
  • *optional Small lolly Pop

First I measured my wrist and cut the elastic string. I tied a small bead on one end so the kids are set to create their bracelets.

Then take the string and press it into the corner of the plastic baggy. Add a handful of beads (assorted colors so it is for boys or girls.)

Tie the Baggy off with colored ribbon to hold all the beads in the corner, cut the excess baggy off. I was able to make three bags of beads out of one sandwich baggy. Next put it in your egg, I also added a small lolly pop in there. It was a bit too long so I snipped about a 1/4" off the end so it would fit inside
... and TADA all done.

Dr Seuss Nursery Mural

I thought I would share the mural I painted when I was 7 months pregnant with Emelia. I have always loved the whimsy and quirky quality that Dr. Seuss books had, and always knew I wanted a Dr. Seuss themed nursery. Now after both kids have moved out of the room and into their own space it is now a fun playroom for them to be themselves in. :)

The finished Product!
Come on in! Love the new doors.

I was planning on making a growth chart for the Fox in the socks to hold but never got around to it.

The Bedding

The cute hat lamp

The comfy chair I rocked both my babies in

I love this room. I'm not sure if I will ever have the heart to paint over it.

Emelia's 3rd Birthday { Wonder Pet's Party! }

EMELIA'S 3rd Birthday!
The Wonder Pets Party

Invitations:
I created these cute invitations on photoshop

Decorations:

Well we had the party at the park, so there wasn't much decorating to do. I purchased all the adorable Wonder pet's birthday supplies. We put a pop up tent for shade and I spread out a huge blanket so people could eat on the grass in the shade.

Games & Activities:

Find a animal:
I thought that it would be cute if all the kids could save an animal so I bought a small blow up pool and filled it with sand. Then I buried a bunch of animals in the sand. All the kids were able to use a shovel to save an animal. All the kids took home the animal that they saved.

Dress like a wonder pet:
I also had capes made for all the kids. I had someone sew them since I don't sew and then I made and glued all the wonder pets emblems on to the back made out of felt. It took a long time to do, but so worth it! All the kids loved the capes.
Face painting:
I decided to break out the face paints and created a board of all the animals I could paint on the kids faces.
The Cake:
I must say I think I did a lot better this time around creating the fly boat wonder pets cake. I used the sail and characters from Emelia's toy fly boat. I took chocolate covered doughnuts and dipped them in melted colored blue frosting. I also used marshmallow's for the jets in the back and colored M&Ms for the lights. Then I took the sail and the wonderpets characters from Emelia's toy fly boat it was the perfect touch to finish her cake. I was really proud of my self in the end. :) I also made cupcakes and put a wonder pets ring on top for the kids.

The Food:
The only themed food I served was celery sticks with various spreads. We did a ranch dip, Peanut butter, and cream cheese. You can't have a wonder pets party and not server celery. :)

We also rented a snow cone machine. That was so much fun and all the kids LOVED it!

Birthday Girl Apparel:
Another Darling shirt made by a fellow etsian! Here shop name is jakeandlucy. Here is the link to her shop http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6261153 Jea was able to create the shirt exactly what I had envisioned!

I had her do an applique of Ming Ming (Emelia's Favorite character) on the front and then on the back it said "This is serious"

Goody Bags:
All the kids took home the animal they saved in the sand and there wonderpets cape.

Photography:
Once again my WONDERFUL and talented friend Jenny took pictures of the party. You can view the whole party on her website at www.jennerrose.com then go to the client area type in the password wonderpet also for Jude's party the password is onefish
