We made these for my kid's teachers and coaches. 

I found the cute poem on http://greeneacreshobbyfarm.blogspot.com/2011/02/girl-scout-cookie-valentine.html but she used "Shout outs" for her cookies.

This year for class Valentines we decided to hand out Side Walk Chalk. I purchased these at Party City. It came with 18 Boxes. We created a chalk backdrop and took pictures. I then created the rest in photoshop.

Owl Valentine Mail Box

   

       We started out by making a regular mailbox and ended with an owl. Whoooo would have known. :)

I wasn't planning on doing a tutorial on this, because I kind of made this without really knowing what to do. But Basically I used 2 cereal boxes and duct tape.I just started folding one cereal box to create the shape of a mailbox and used the duct tape to re-enforce the shape. Then used another box for the ends. I taped one shut and left the top un-sealed so you can open and close it. The bow up top is for you pull the top open, for friends to put Valentines inside. Then we decorated. We used one sheet of 12x12 scrapbook paper for the body. I think it turned out really cute. Emelia had tons of fun making those hearts now that she learned how to.

Valentines LOVE Bug Craft.

   

   

With Valentines Day around the corner I thought we would make a cute Valentines craft. Sure you can make a ton of these and pass out as Valentines, but you would have to eat a whole lot of fruit cups to get the bodies. So we opted to just make a few for Emelia's really close Friends. My kids really love the mandarin oranges that come in those fruit cups, so I started saving them. The other day I envisioned them as Lady bugs. So here we are.

What you need: (to make one)

1 ea   Fruit Cup (washed and dried)

1 ea   1 1/2" Black Pom Pom

1 ea   Black Pipe Cleaners

1 set  Googly Eyes

1 bg  Candy (we choose to do Hershey Kisses)

1 ea   Red, white and black construction paper. 

         Pink wiltons gel food coloring

         Black marker

         Glue Gun

How to make it:

Step One: Take your fruit cup and trace a circle on the white paper., cut small hearts out of the Black paper, and cut a medium size heart out of the red paper. Make sure it fits on the white circle. Glue it on top and write your message.

Step Two: Put a little bit of food coloring onto a paper towel and wipe the inside of your fruit cup, so it stains the inside. Let it dry. Next Fill it up with your candy, and then put hot glue along the edges of the top of the fruit cup and glue your white circle onto it. 

Step Three: Flip it over and put your black pom pom on for the head, curl your antenna and glue them right behind the head add your eyes and black heart spots and your Done!

We made a few of these. We had originally placed the lady bug on a green leaf and wrote our message there and then tried one without the leaf. My daughter liked it without the leaf so we went in that direction. Here is a photo of the one on a leaf.

Valentine LOVE. :)

This year Emelia get’s to celebrate Valentines day at school. After seeing soo many cute ideas on Pintrest this is what I have decided to make. (inspiration idea from http://24-7-365.blogspot.com/2009/02/lavish-me-with-praise.html)

PHOTOSHOP:  Luckily I had this photo from last years valentine photoshoot with Jenner Rose Photography. Emelia was holding red balloons so with my handy photoshop skills i took the balloons out, so it made a perfect hand to hold the pop. Then designed a cute valentine card.

I'm planning on printing these photo cards on 4x6 photo paper, Next stick the lollipop stick through the photo....  and then mount them to pink card stock. 

THE TREAT: The pop is a marshmallow that I lightly dyed with pink food coloring, dipped them in white chocolate, sprinkled with some white sprinkles and then topped off with a conversation heart. 

It was super easy to make and shouldn't take me too long to make. :) (that's always a plus!)

 Emelia ended up eating this marshmallow in 2 seconds. She loved it.

Valentine "Heart" Door wreath

This project was inspired by a wreath I saw on pintrest.

I ended up changing it up a bit.  

What you will need:

• A wire Hanger
• Fake plant greens. You want them to be on the long side so you can wrap them around the wire.
• Wooden Heart
• Red, White, Black or Brown Paint
• Red Ribbon
• Floral wire and wire cutters

How to make it:

First I took the wire hanger and shaped it into a heart. 

Next I cut lengths off my greens and started wrapping them around my heart shaped wire hanger. In certain places I used the floral wire to re-enforce the greens onto my wire. once i covered the whole heart. 

I painted the wooden heart, tied on my ribbon and then attached my wooden heart to the bottom. 

A beautiful door hanger for a Loving season. :)

Photo Collage Love Note!

My sweet husbands Birthday is right around the corner so I thought I would share with you what my kids made for him two years ago. It is a super simple piece or artwork for any age.

Materials Needed:

• Canvas any size. (I like to use gallery wrapped canvas' so they can be hung right on the wall without framing them)
• Acrylic paint (any colors) or any other non-toxic paint depending on the age.
  
• Brushes or Fingers
  
• A Printed photo. Print size depends on the canvas size. When photo is place in the center you want at least a two to three inch border around.
  
• Fine tip sharpie marker
• Sponge Brush
  
• Mod Podge (matte or glossy)

Let's Begin!

• Squirt out some paint and let your child get creative. Let them be abstract with colors. Have some music playing so they can move their arms to the beat.

• Let it dry. Typically 2-3 hours. If the paint is really thick it may take a day to dry. If you want to speed up the process. Use a hair dryer on Low.
  

• Once your canvas is dry. Take a little bit of Mod Podge and paint a thin layer all over your canvas. Don't worry the mod podge is white but will dry clear. Place the photo in the center of your canvas. Paint another layer over the whole canvas as well as the photo. Let that dry completely. Give it at least 2 hours or use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
  

• So your Canvas is completely Dry. Let's write down why you love the person you are giving this to. Ask your Child: Why they love____? or What do you like to do with ____?and basically you write what they say along the outside of the photo. The best part is to write what they say. Sometimes you can get some really cute and memorable responses. (Don't forget to sign it with the year)

Jude's canvas says: Jude was only 18 months old at the time so I helped out a bit. :)
"I love my daddy, because he makes me laugh and smile. My favorite time with him is when it is just the boys"

Valentine Owls

Look WHO Loves you, Valentines Craft.

Materials Needed

• Brown paper (example: brown paper bag, craft paper, construction paper)
• Green paper, red paper & white paper
  
• Paper Plate
• Popsicle Stick
• Two Large Googley Eyes (optional)
• Scissors
• Pen, Crayon or Marker
• Acrylic Paint (White, Black and Orange)
• Glue or Paste
• Apple
  
• Carrot (I used small baby bullet carrots)
  

Based on the age level of your child you can do some prep work so they can assemble their craft easier.

Preparing for the craft:

• First take your brown paper and tear out a circle with two points (triangles) at the top for the ears of the owl. Try to make his body roughly the size of your hand, then tear a longer rectangular piece for the tree branch.

• Cut a few leaves out of the green paper and two hearts out of the red paper. Cut a rectangle about 2"x3" size out of the white paper.

• HOW TO MAKE YOUR STAMPS: (PARENT ONLY) For the Owl's face: Take your apple and cut it in half from top to bottom. For the beak: Grab your carrot and cut about 1" off from the tip, then cut that in half. For the Feathers: You can use the same carrot cut another 1" off. If you need to round out the bottom you can. Cut that in half. For the claws: You can also cut about Another inch off the carrot and slice it length wise into four parts. (so you have thinner long pieces)

Let's Assemble it!

• Have your Child place the paper plate (Moon) on the table. Then Glue down your tree branch, the Owl perched on top, and the leaves.
  

• Start Stamping out your Owl. WHITE PAINT: Take the Apple and dip it into white paint. Stamp it on your owl to create his white face. (tip:You may need to use your finger tip to fill in empty areas.) Take your carrot for the feathers and dip it into the white paint and stamp it on your Owls chest.

• BLACK PAINT: Take your finger tip and dip it into the black paint and create black dots on your owls chest.

• ORANGE PAINT: Take your carrot tip for the beak and dip it into the orange paint then stamp it on your Owls face. Next take your longer carrot strips and dip them into the orange paint and stamp three lines onto the branch and your bird to make the claws.
  

• Glue your eyes or use your finger tips to create eyes for your owl.

• Use one of the hearts and Write what ever you want on it. (example: Love, Mom your child's Name) then glue it next to your owl.

• Glue the other heart to the top of your popsicle stick. Then write a love note on your white paper and glue it to the stick. Take the stick and tuck it with glue behind your Owl..... and TADA you are done!

We hosted a playdate at our home and created this craft. All the kids LOVED it! What a great way to show someone you love them. :)
